This policy explains what information the Split Bills & Settle Wise app ("SettleWise", "the app", "we") handles, why, and the choices you have. The app works fully offline without an account. Optional cloud features, such as backup, sharing groups with others and Pro, need you to sign in.
You can create groups, members and expenses without signing in. In this mode your data is stored only in a local database on your device. We cannot see it, and it is not sent to our servers. Removing the app or clearing its storage deletes it.
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address and profile photo from your Google or Apple account, and a unique account ID | You sign in with Google or Apple | To create and identify your account |
| Groups, members (names and any email or phone number you enter), expenses, splits, payments, settlements and activity history | You back up a group or join a shared group | To back up your data, sync it across your devices and share it with the people in the same group |
| Receipt and bill photos | You attach a receipt to an expense in a cloud group (a Pro feature) | To store the photo privately so group members can view it |
| Device identifier, platform (Android/iOS), app version and notification token | You are signed in | To keep devices in sync and to send notifications |
| Subscription and purchase status (for example, whether Pro or a 30-Day Trip Pass is active, and its expiry) | You buy or restore a Pro plan | To unlock paid features |
| Usage and diagnostic data (see section 5), linked to a random account ID when you are signed in | You use the app | To understand which features are used, fix problems and improve the app |
| Invite codes | You invite someone to a group | To let that person join the group |
Other members of a cloud group can see the group's content, including expenses, names and receipts, according to the role you give them (owner, editor or viewer). Share a group only with people you trust.
The camera and photo library are used only when you choose to attach a receipt. Photos are stored on your device. If you attach one to an expense in a cloud group, it is uploaded to private cloud storage and is shown only to members of that group through short-lived secure links.
SettleWise offers optional paid plans (Pro subscriptions and a 30-Day Trip Pass). Purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never receive or store your card or payment details. We use RevenueCat, a subscription management service, to verify purchases and entitlements. RevenueCat receives an app user ID (your account ID when signed in, otherwise an anonymous ID), your purchase history and device and store information. Subscriptions renew and are cancelled through your Google Play or Apple ID account settings.
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used, Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports, and Firebase Remote Config to switch features on or off. We do not use advertising identifiers and we do not show ads.
Events we record. When you use the app we record actions such as:
Details attached to events. Events carry only limited technical and usage details, such as amounts, currency codes, expense categories, counts (for example, how many items were synced), the plan type, success or failure, and short error codes. We do not send group names, member names, expense titles or descriptions, receipt photos, email addresses or phone numbers, or the text you type into search to analytics. For searches we record only how long the text was.
Identifiers and properties. When you are signed in, we link analytics to the random account ID created by our service. It is not your email or name, and it is cleared when you log out. We also record a few properties of the device or account so we can group usage: whether you have Pro, whether you are signed in, which sign-in provider you use, and your theme, default currency and language settings. Firebase also automatically collects an app instance identifier and technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version, country or region (derived from your IP address) and crash traces.
You can stop analytics at any time by uninstalling the app. Deleting your account removes the link between analytics and your account ID. You can also contact us at the address below.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
When you sign out, the app syncs your latest changes and then removes the data stored on that device so the next person who signs in does not see it. Groups that were never backed up to the cloud exist only on the device and are removed when you sign out; the app warns you before this happens. Your cloud data stays in your account and comes back when you sign in again.
Local-only data stays on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Cloud data is kept while your account is active. You can delete a cloud group you own inside the app, which deletes it for all its members.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile, Delete account. You can also request it by emailing info@fiveonedigital.in from the address linked to your account. When your account is deleted:
Data is sent over encrypted connections, and receipt photos are kept in private storage. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The app is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, or to object to certain processing. You can edit your profile and delete groups in the app, and you can contact us for anything else, including questions about the analytics data linked to your account.
We may update this policy as the app changes, for example when we add features. The latest version is always on this page, with its date at the top. Significant changes take effect when posted.
The app has a "Chat on WhatsApp" option that opens a chat with our support number in the WhatsApp app. It pre-fills a message with your app version, device platform, plan (Free or Pro) and, if you are signed in, the email of your account, so we can find your account. You can edit or delete this before sending. Nothing is sent unless you press send in WhatsApp. WhatsApp's own privacy policy applies to the conversation, and we use your messages only to help you.
